SUMMARY:Soutenance HDR Alexandra Alvergne | "Écologie Évolutive de la Santé des Femmes : Approche Bioculturelle"
DESCRIPTION:Résumé: \n\n\n\nL’écologie évolutive de la santé des femmes : une approche bioculturelle \n\n\n\nÊtre une femme est-il une maladie ? Cette question provocatrice souligne la pathologisation traditionnelle de la fonction reproductive féminine dans la biomédecine occidentale depuis le 19e siècle. Récemment\, les sciences sociales ont lancé un appel pour dépasser les recherches sur le ‘bikini’\, c’est-à-dire centrées uniquement sur la santé reproductive\, pour aborder les défis de santé des femmes du 21e siècle. Bien que ces appels soient depuis longtemps nécessaires\, je soutiens qu’il est trompeur de séparer la santé ‘non-reproductive’ de la santé ‘reproductive’. En réalité\, comprendre le système reproductif féminin tel qu’il a évolué est fondamental pour comprendre la santé des femmes. À travers un prisme évolutionnaire\, la santé n’est qu’un moyen pour permettre la reproduction\, et la variation de la fonction reproductive à travers les écologies est attendue plutôt que pathologique. Je préconise également des méthodes bioculturelles pour identifier les voies par lesquelles l’écologie façonne la santé et les maladies. \n\n\n\nLa présentation se déroulera en quatre segments principaux : (1) l’écologie du comportement reproductif des femmes dans le contexte de la transition démographique ; (2) la physiologie du cycle menstruel\, pour élucider les patrons de variation ‘normale’ et le développement de maladies telles que l’endométriose ; (3) le lien entre la santé reproductive et la santé ‘non-reproductive’\, mettant en lumière les variations de la sévérité des maladies au cours du cycle menstruel et le coût de la reproduction pour le vieillissement des femmes ; et (4) les causes et les conséquences des normes genrées (excision\, matrilinéarité) pour la santé des femmes. Ce programme de recherche interdisciplinaire contribue à réduire l’écart de santé des femmes en soulignant les compromis entre reproduction et santé à travers les écologies sociales et culturelles.

Pourtant\, l’impact de ce « microbiote social » sur notre santé reste méconnu. Plongeons-nous dans le monde des primates pour comprendre à quel point les échanges de microbes entre partenaires sociaux sont cruciaux pour la survie des individus. Ces microbes acquis socialement pourraient renforcer notre immunité\, ou encore expliquer pourquoi certaines maladies non-transmissibles semblent influencées par notre vie sociale.

SUMMARY:Co-evolution of behavior and beliefs in social dilemmas: estimating material\, social\, cognitive and cultural determinants - Sergey Gavrilets
DESCRIPTION:Understanding and predicting human cooperative behavior and beliefs dynamics remain a major challenge both from the scientific and practical perspectives. Because of the complexity and multiplicity of material\, social and cognitive factors involved both empirical and theoretical work tend to focus only on some snippets of the puzzle. Recently\, a mathematical theory has been proposed that integrates material\, social\, and cognitive aspects of behavior and beliefs dynamics in social dilemmas within heterogeneous groups. Here we validate and apply this theory in different cultural contexts through four long-term behavioral experiments utilizing the Common Pool Resources game and the Collective Risk game. Our results show that material considerations carry the smallest weight in decision-making\, while personal norms tend to be the most important factor. Empirical and normative expectations have intermediate weights in decision-making. Cognitive dissonance\, social projection\, logic constraints\, and cultural background play important roles in both decision-making and beliefs dynamics. At the individual level\, we observe differences in the weights people assign to factors involved in the decision-making and beliefs updating process. We identify different types of prosociality and rule-following associated with cultural differences\, various channels for the effects of messaging\, and culturally-dependent interactions between sensitivity to messaging and conformity. Our results can put policy and information  design on firmer grounds\, highlighting the need for interventions tailored to the situation at hand and to individual characteristics.
