SUMMARY:Annual Conference of the European Human Behaviour and Evolution Association
DESCRIPTION:La société savante European Human Behaviour and Evolution Association (EHBEA) réunit annuellement des chercheurs internationaux\, issus des sciences de l’évolution et des sciences humaines\, qui s’intéressent aux adaptations physiologiques et comportementales de l’espèce humaine. L’approche évolutionniste\, en prenant en compte les processus de sélection naturelle et les compromis évolutifs\, a ouvert de nombreuses pistes pour la compréhension de la cognition\, du comportement\, et des sociétés humaines. Les conférences annuelles de l’EHBEA permettent\, grâce à l’interdisciplinarité des recherches présentées\, de faire avancer la réflexion scientifique autours de sujets tels que l’écologie comportementale\, la psychologie évolutionniste\, l’évolution culturelle\, et la médecine évolutionniste. Cette conférence s’est tenue à Helsinki en 2015\, Londres en 2016 et 2023\, Paris en 2017\, Pécs en 2018\, et Toulouse en 2019. Montpellier\, où elle avait déjà eu lieu en 2008\, a été sélectionnée de nouveau pour accueillir cette manifestation en 2024. Cette conférence\, organisée par l’Institut des Sciences de l’Evolution de Montpellier (ISEM)\, se déroulera au sein du prestigieux et récent Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional

DESCRIPTION:Wild orangutans inhabit extremely variable dietary environments with fluctuations in fruit availability that cause significant changes in their dietary compositions and total caloric intake. Many studies on mammals and primates show clear signals of seasonal variation in gut microbiota. A few primate studies demonstrate that gut microbiota may be helping hosts maintain energy balance during seasonal fluctuations in diet by energetically compensating for nutritional stress or reductionsin intake. We measured temporal changes in wild orangutan diets and gut microbiota across a shifting nutritional landscape that is highly variable and unpredictable\, without clear seasons or cycles. Our results suggest that orangutan gut microbiomes are enhancing their ability to exploit periods of caloric abundance\, rather than compensating for reductions in dietary intake during lean periods
